2016 Adventures to the Grand Bahamas

January has been a winter vacation month.  While it is cold and usually snowing at home, we venture forth to warmer areas of the world.  For the last few years it has been to the islands in the Caribbean. So far we have been exploring the islands of St Croix, St Johns, British Virgin Islands as well as Jamaica.  The last two vacations have been on cruise ships.  Although it was fun the first time, not sure I would like a stead diet of cruise ship vacations.  There are just too many other places I would like to see.

This last January was a cruise to the Bahamas.  The Grand Bahamas island was new to us.  So a short over night cruise and we landed at the Grand Luycan resort for two nights.  The resort was clean and the food was good. I especially liked the Chinese restaurant.  It was easier to eat vegetarian dishes.   However, January in the islands is just a bit colder than we would like.

The cruise ship (Grand Bahamas Celebration) was a smaller ship than the first ship we took for a cruise vacation.  Clean and comfortable!   For the short time we were on board, we couldn't take advantage of the many activities.  However, we did manage to find a cocktail martini lounge with a live piano.  I love cocktail piano -- especially if they are playing lite jazz.  We found a new favorite martini called the Vesper (a 007 James Bond -- shaken not stirred martini).  Strong and we ended up sharing it.  Very good!   I was in heaven -- a good Birthday surprise.

The Grand Luycan resort was fun.  Especially watching rookies trying to sail a hobie kat.   I was laughing so hard when they finally turned it over and then beached it.  Luckily for them, someone came to their rescue and help them get the boat back out and sailed down the beach and launching point.

Although, it was too cool to go swimming, the pools were nice and clean. It was an afternoon pass time to sit on the beach with drink in hand and watch the others play in the cold water.  I would recommend the island.  But I was told after our trip, that the other Bahama island was nicer.
